Gazing Out

Posing like an actress with one hand against the wall and the other resting upon the windowpane, I stood there gazing out. I looked through the tinted glass at vast sky that was now heavily veiled with dark clouds. A mild breeze was blowing making the trees dance to the tunes of the Nature. Suddenly the gentle breeze turned into a violent wind threatening to uproot the tender plants and also the mighty trees. The colossal palm trees swayed to and fro like a gigantic pendulum. The soft whistling of the wind became a shrill high pitched cry which made me feel eerie. The wild storm lasted for awhile.
As I continued gazing out, I noticed a tiny nest huddled up on a tender branch of a small tree. The fierce storm shook the tree with mighty force. I prayed for the tiny creatures nestled within. I pressed my hand hard against the pane in futile attempt to save the fragile nest.
Gradually the storm died down leaving the branches droopy and tired after their fight for survival. Mercifully the nest had survived the violent storm.
Rain succeeded tempest. The cool shower poured down on the dusty heated earth rendering it some tranquility. I threw open the window to welcome the spell of rain accompanied with soothing breeze. It gushed past me touching my bare face and gently ruffling my tresses. The intoxicating fragrance of the wet earth filled my lungs. I felt ecstatic. I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply.
Suddenly melancholy took me in its cold embrace as I missed being home. I missed the evening “addas” & snacking on the crispy “telebhaja” prepared by Ma. It made me feel nostalgic bringing back the good old memories.
My ringing phone jerked me out of the reverie. It had stopped raining. Nature was once again adorned in its beautiful lush green robe. As I turned away, my eyes caught a tiny water droplet that trickled down the crisp leaf, vanishing into the heart of the brown terrain.
